It may feel great being sealed in tight in your home while the 100+ degree Houston summers are flaming outside. But did you know that this could be the cause for that constant running nose and allergies you or your loved ones have been suffering from? According to Harvard Medical School [https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/easy-ways-you-can-improve-indoor-air-quality] publication, stale indoor air can increase the amount of allergy-inducing dust mites, pet dander, and mold spores circulating through your house. These can further cause respiratory problems (including asthma flare-ups), fatigue and sleepiness, or even digestive issues.
What can be in Air ducts that could have an adverse effect on my health?
Asbestos (in older homes)
Volatile Organic compounds (VOC) – these chemicals are emitted from normal household items such as hair spray, furniture, cleaning supplies and even glue and markers
Radon – is a very common and known carcinogen that can make its way into our homes
Vehicle exhaust – from outdoor traffic and even cars parked in an attached garage
Garden pesticides
Pollen
Pet dander
Dead skin cells that are the primary food source for dust mites
What can I do to improve the Air Quality in my House?
Besides the obvious normal house cleaning, regularly cleaning the air ducts, where the dust, mites, mold spores and other air allergens accumulate. Cleaning the air ducts in your home can reduce these allergens and increase the air quality in your house, creating a healthier environment for you and your loved ones. Changing air filter regularly can also help reduce some of the accumulation.
What is an Air duct cleaning service?
Air ducts cleaning service includes inspection of the actual air ducts for durability and condition, including the connection between the ducts (plenum box). Checking for visible signs of mold and assessing the coil and furnace for dirt and dust build up.
We clean both flex ducts and metal ducts. If for any reason the technician thinks it will be too risky to clean, he will recommend another course of action or a replacement. We will not take any action if there is even the smallest chance that the cleaning may damage them.
The Air Duct cleaning is done from the attic because it is the most efficient access point to clean all the ducts properly and for getting the best results. Removing vent covers to access the ducts can actually cause damage to your walls and is not as thorough.
How much does basic air duct cleaning cost?
We strongly believe in keeping you and your family healthy! That is why we created our basic air duct cleaning package for $89.00
Included in our package: Unlimited air ducts (per each AC system), Inspection of the current HVAC System, basic cleaning using brush and vacuum at a high intensity, leaving your house clean after the AC duct cleaning. We will NOT be removing vents
Additional services we offer:
While we inspect your system during our basic cleaning package, we will let you know if we find any issues you should be aware of, and physically show you the problem and explain in detail what needs to be done to resolve it. We will also make recommendation of how to prevent it in the future. Our goal is to improve the quality of the air you are breathing. Our professional technicians are qualified and educated.
If we do find a problem, we can make a plan together in how to continue and tackle whatever issue we find. It is very important to us that you feel comfortable when you make your decision. Like all our services, we offer – before and after pictures of the work we do.
return air vent cleaning
The return vent is a separate part of the ducts. During the inspection, our technician will check if any return cleaning is even required. If it is, the price will be determined by the size and condition and could range between $25-$65.
Mold Cleaning
At the time of our inspection, the technician will check if any mold discoloration is visible and depending on what he finds, he will let you know the process and price. Mold cleaning requires more extensive testing and treatment with different materials.

Your HVAC Cleaning Houston system is comprised of a combined indoor and outdoor unit. The indoor unit is known by many names, the most common of them being; air handler, furnace, main unit (and/or HVAC unit).
The Indoor Unit has these components:
Blower/Fan
Filter (depends on unit)
Heater
Plenum Box
Evaporating Coil
Drain Pipe
Drain Pan
Air Ducts
Return Air Ducts
The outside unit includes:
Fan
Compressor
Condenser coil
Refrigerant
Tubing (piping) for Refrigerant
Both these units and their individual components work together to provide hot and cold air within your home. It is necessary to have both sections serviced each year to maintain cleanliness and efficiency. Neglected systems will be short lived and rack up high bills for repair and replacement, and most likely be the culprit for those lofty energy bills.
Here, at Take Air Duct & Carpet Cleaning Specialists LLC Houston TX, we believe that knowledge is power and in following this concept, we encourage our customers as well as all residential/ commercial owners to understand their HVAC Cleaning Houston systems and understand what Indoor Air Quality can mean to you and your family.
Connection Box
The connection box (or the plenum) is a chamber box in which the air comes into as well as out. It channels the air into the duct work to be dispersed into the house /building. The connection box is usually made of metal and contains insulation within or outside itself. Some plenum boxes are actually made of fiberglass.
Cleaning of the connection box is recommended every 3 year at least, anything longer and buildup within can cause air restriction in your home, burdening your system. In cases where the connection box is made of fiberglass material, we recommend an application of foster 40-20*, a fungicidal coating that seals all pores to prevent microbial growth.
*Foster® Continuous Defense 40-20™ Fungicidal Protective Coating is EPA registered and the industry’s leading coating. It is formulated to prevent the spread of mold and bacteria in areas such as walls, ceilings, interior and HVAC ducting. FOSTER Continuous Defense 40-20™ Fungicidal Protective Coating is a poly acrylate copolymer emulsion specifically formulated for long-term fungicidal activity, with no loss of activity on aging. It is formulated to effectively prevent the spread of molds and odor-causing bacteria on its surface. It provides a tough, elastic, decorative finish that allows for movement without splitting,(which can create crevices for bacteria growth).
40-20™ provides a cost effective, decorative finish resistant to many industrial chemicals, together with long-lasting protection. It can be used on walls, ceilings, pipes, interior and exterior surfaces of HVAC duct systems and wherever effective controls are essential.
40-20™ guards against the re-growth and spread of odor-causing bacteria and molds on the surface of the coated HVAC system or its treated components only. As a result, the building occupants may enjoy a workspace free of the odor problems often associated with contaminated HVAC duct systems.
